55 gal tank

what i meant by the post was not to add all of those fish. that would be cruel what i was asking was would 1 or 2 specimens from that list be able to live in comfort.

apistos, dwarf plecos, tetras. All of those fish except the dempsey get too large for the demensions of a 55 gallon.

Personally I hate 55's Nataku noted they're too narrow for large fish. Unfortunately they're cheap and people are easily impressed with the large front glass and think they're getting a "large" tank at a bargain price. Though still 48" long the 75 gal tanks give more usable room. Since you already have the tank it's a moot point. Try the convicts. Great medium cichlid, easy to spawn, not too messy thus easy to maintain.
Or try some "dwarf" cichlids, often more sensitive to water quality but typically more colorfull and you can still have larger tetras, danios etc to add interest to the higher level. Good luck.

55gals also make perfect tanks for Angelfish. you can have a nice 6 fish shoal of them in there. I won't suggest Discus because simply from the sounds of it your not ready for that commitment.

remove oscars from ur options too... they can get pretty huge for a 55 gal.

i think 55 gal. is too small for most cichlids?

Angels?

I currently have a few angels in my planted 55gallon. they are a ton of fun to watch and are extremely intelligent as well you could prolly fit about 5-6 full grown angels in there if you wanted

funny how everyone is kocking sugetions but no is adding any. An oscar would do alright in there many ppl keep them in 55's although it would be much happier in a 75. But some better Ideas would be some convicts, Jewels, Kribs, Rainbows, Keyhole or even a couple severums would be nice in that tank. Honestly I like a 55 for rift lake africans do a little research so you dont wind up with anything to big and you can put about 10 4-6 inch fish in there if not a few more and before all you critisizers like natzu or what ever your name is chime in and say thats way to many fish for a 55 remember that it is recomended to overstock an african tank to help stop agresion more fish makes it easier for one that is getting picked on to get lost in the crowd you just have to do more tank maintence with that many fish 3/4 water change every week and alot of filtration I have to ac 500's and a fluval 300 canister on my african tank. good luck and hope you find some nice medium sized cichlids to put in your tank

And yet again some of you morons keep lumping all cichlids from africa as "african cichlids" and making the same assumptions for each and every one of them. Get a clue, is it really that hard to say Malawi? hmmm nope. Of course this is comin from someone who just had to scroll down the page a bit to see how my Screen name was spelled, but instead chose to just guess.

Oscars are NOT suited for 55s, they get too large for them, how would you like to only have about 12" to turn around in when you yourself was 12"? 75s are the minimum. Sure people keep Oscars in 55s "just fine" but like it or not, its not anywhere near the best for the fish, if you can't provide a good home for the fish, tank size and all, then DON'T buy the fish.

While your maintence regime may seem impressive to you, its not. Thats about an average routine.

No one is adding suggestions, learn to read a little bit more. I see Apistos, angels, other dwarf cichlids, convicts, blood parrots, I'll take africans to mean Malawis, Tanyganikans or Victorians ( my whole point to critising that one is that not all "africans" are built to be the same size, a 55 is too small for Malawi eye biters just as an example, try puttin 4-5 of them in there), so suggestions have been made before you came along.

OH well though.

I never said that routine was impressive just that you should at least do that much if you have that many fish most people only do a change every other week or once a month i was just segesting that should be the minimum.

I also specified RIFT LAKE AFRICAN CICHLIDS. I dont care what you think but it is perfectly fine to keep all rift lake cichlids together unless you are trying to set up a habitat exactly to the one the fish is from in the wild. And im sure that you will have some type of reason why its not alright but not all of us in the hobby have to contradict everything someone says just because there opinions vary. If someine gives incorrect facts then fine but opinions are just that opinoins :duh:

P.S. this is form this site check out the min tank size.
