I want to start a Mbuna tank with a empty 55 gallon I already have. There's a local breeder who is getting out of the hobby and has a few different mbuna for pretty good prices. I'm not sure about stocking levels for the 55. The three Mbunas he has are all juvies...

8 P Demasoni 1.5-2.5"
9 L Fulleborni 1.5"
18 P Saulosi 1.5 "

The number on the left are the quantity of each he has. I'm not sure about the sex of any of the fish. I would also like to add other cichlids that I could buy at my local LFS also. I would probably start with a combination (if possible) of these three types and add more fish soon. What do you think would be a good combo if any of these three types. I can ask him for specific m/f. I'm sure he would know how to sex them,If possible @ juvie size. Any info appreciated. Thanks :)

hey reddog the demasoni are dwarf african cichlids attaining a size of 3 inches if i am correct but they all have to be entered in the tank at the same time so if you buy 2 demasoni and try to add some more in a week or so they will kill the new comers also the demasoni hate other fish with stripes, i would do about 5 each in a 55gal with alot of rockwork and if you wanted to add something else maybe a small group of yellow labs but i would leave out the saulosi or the demasoni the male saulosi look like demasoni when their adults. later buddy..

I'd personally skip on dems if you can't get a group of at least 12 to avoid any major kill offs. Saulosis stay relatively small for mbuna, around 4", so you can have a big group of them and a smaller group of fuellebornis, since they're on the opposite end of mbuna size and grow to around 6.5"-7".
