I'm so excited I'm picking up my tank Saturday and it comes with live rock and I'm going to be bringing most of the water from his established tank which I will be taking down when I get there. So my first question would be if somebody could kindof give me a step by step of what to do when I get it here? And in a different thread I decided on my stocking list for a 40 gallon but that tank fell through so tell me what you think on this list and if there all reef safe. The only ones I added where a mated pair instead of one clownfish and the firefish
1.yellow assesor
2.3 blue-green chromis
3.green clown goby
4. mated pair occelaris clown
5. firefish
sorry for the long thread I'm just really excited to finally be getting started after the 3 months of planning.

We'd need to know more about the tank specs to give you a list. On the clown gobies, they will often fight with their own kind, you might be OK in a 55g and 2 might form a pair but consider that one or two might be harassed.

just wanted to clarify are you talking about the clown goby or clownfish because I was only planning on one goby. The tank was previously set up as reef I got it for 250 and figured for that price I can just get whatever else isn't included. Because to tell you the truth I kindof didn't ask.55gal saltwater fish tank with wet/dry filter, metal halide lights 175w each full of live rock the sand is crushed coral so I'll definetly be throwing that out after reading the sticky on it. Here's the pic

I read your list wrong, I thought you were wanting to get 3 clown gobies.

At this point it won't have any livestock right? If that is accurate I'd probably put the rocks in a rubbermaid container with a heater and a powerhead and then dump the rest of the water. I'd then get online and show us what came with the tank to let us give you advice that is meaningful.

There is a good chance you'll hear us suggest you get new bulbs for the lights, to not use the wet/dry unless you convert it a sump, etc. But again, to be meaningful we need to know details you don't have yet.

ya there is no livestock and I don't have e-mail using a friends for just about everything so basically all I know is that it's a complete set-up basically everything the guys has heater skimmer powerhead, etc. I don't know any brands or anything

As someone that bought a "complete set-up" let me assure you it often doesn't mean much when they say that. From looking at the seller's tank alone that he calls full of live rock I have doubts he knows what a full set-up is. What made me have to learn this hobby fast was how wrong I was in trusting the seller of my used tank knew what they were doing.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait and see Saturday how long will the live rock be okay in the container do you think and do you have any other comments on the stocking list?

Well which fish we like is really such a personal thing. But I can say that there shouldn't be problems with the list. I would suggest that you look at the list with an eye of what will have jobs in the tank as well though. Lawnmower blennies for instance eat algae. They have an added bonus of being loaded with personality and watching you while kissing on the front glass.

Okay I took a look at all of the fish on my list and now I can't decide again Thanks!!!!Anyway I still love all of the fish I have chosen except for the chromis I'd kindof like more of a variety of different fish so does anybody have any suggestions
