I'm looking to stock my 55 gallon tank once it finishes cycling. I'm interested in the following fish groups. This list is by no means complete or all fish being put in this tank, but I'm wondering about any incompatabilities ya'll may know about that I'm missing out on.

6 Tiger Barbs
6 Cory Cats
6 Dwarf Guoramis
6 Platies
6-12 Neon Tetras
2-4 German Gold/Blue Rams
4-6 Ghost or Amano Shrimp
and possibly 1-3 Snails

I know that all these fish will be WAY overstocked in a 55 gallon, but it is the list of fish I'm looking at and the groupings of them. I'm actually thinking about the following stocking plan:
6 Tiger Barbs
6 Cory Cats
6 Dwarf Guoramis
6 Neon Tetras
4 German Gold/Blue Rams
6 Ghost or Amano Shrimp

Thanks,

Well, I'm not sure if tiger barbs and dwarf gouramis can be kept in the same tank. Also gouramis and rams are both a bit territorial so plenty of decor would be needed. I kinda think 4 rams and 6 cories might be a bit much since they are all bottom feeders. It seems you want a variety of fish, but maybe you should consider something like:

10-12 tiger barbs
6 corys (no pygmys)
2 rams (mated pair if you can get them)
6 cherry shrimp

Hmmn, as a question are you planning on having plants?

Tiger barbs cannot be kept with any type of gourami because the tiger barbs love to nip at their long anal fins. i would skip the rams because the tigers may pick on them, even if you have a bigger school, and if the rams breed then they will become terretorial and they may peck out the corydoras' eyes if they come to close to their brood. go for a school of 15-20 tiger barbs, 6 corydoras, and 5 ghost shrimp.

rams are not bottom feeders BTW, they just hang around the bottom to protect their territory.

I'll accept that about the rams, but mine always hung out at the bottom and ate there. I don't think I've ever seen 20 tiger barbs in a 55g tank before, but that might be intersting to watch.

I'm really looking to have several schools of fish really I guess. I don't want one big school of anything. I don't have my mind set on any of the fish except the cory cats (I like their personality and constant action). I'm really wanting a tank that has active fish at all levels of the aquarium. I have also considered Hatchetfish for the top water but am not really sure what will actually live together peacefully. Is there anywhere I can see what fish are active in what parts of the tank?

Thanks,
-Ty
