Ok, I need something or somethings for my 55gal tall. I have a common pleco in it, a pictus catfish, and a rainbow shark. I would like either little community fish that are worth it, or one large solitary fish that would be center attention. I prefer peaceful fish. Just tell me what you all think, heck with some suggestions I may change my mind about what I want in there anyway.

what about red rainbow fish and other small fishes? thoughts?
 
I have a common pleco and 2 pictus catfish in a community tank also. I have a lace catfish, 2 kissing gouramis, 2 3-spot gouramis, 1 dwarf gourami, and 4 mixed fruit tetras. I would suggest some sort of gourami. Mine are very peaceful, but some can be aggressive. I also like iredensent sharks. I have never had a knifefish but they look like they would be really nice in a large tank like yours.
 
gouramis are too often agressive for me to try, unless there is one type that is sweeter than most.
 
any other thoughts? sorry, I am wanting to buy tomorrow. This is awful for me because it is empty and I have a large credit at the store.
 
any other thoughts? I know there are those out there with 55gals... what do you have in it? What would you want in it?
 
Planted? How about a school of rasbora espei or one of the pretty tetras? Even at 18", I've never had problems with a common pleco & even small fish, but others says that they tend to attach to the sides of slow moving fish. I've always though they must not be feeding them enough, but who knows.
 
how about a severum? or a pair of them.
i have a green terror and a turquoise serverum with a rhino pleco in my 55
 
i have zebra danios, harlequin rasboras, swordtails, mollies, and a dwarf gourami in my 55 gallon. They all get along fine. I would suggest swordtails, because they are very active, you can get them in all different varieties/colors, and they will all breed together. You can save some of the fry and raise them. It is fun to watch them grow up, and then you can add them back to your big tank once they get big enough. I have really enjoyed my swordtails, and wish i had more.
