I have an Eclipse 5g hex tank that has been running for a year, but I am working on making it prettier. I've had a live plant in it (some type of anubias I believe, I haven't found anything that looks exactly like it so I'm not sure) the whole time with just the 15w incandescent light that came with the tank, and despite that and the fact that I buried the rhizome (I am so ashamed!), it has gotten a few new leaves.
I'm planning to buy a 10w compact flourescent light. Should I get the 50/50 or the 100% white one? Which would be better for the plants, and what is the difference in viewing the fish?
Also, I've run the 5g with no heater and no problems in the past but we're keeping the house cooler so I need a heater now. I've been looking at 25w submersible heaters, because I don't think there is any room in that tank for one to stick out. Are there any particular ones that you would recommend?
thanks in advance for any help! I'm sure my fish are happier since I found this place.
