The betta would be happy in a 5 gallon, you could also get some male guppys, I think they're cute fish and they have some amazing colors!

Normally more than 1 male guppy without any females is bad news, they will bicker. Also, guppies have long, flowy fins, much like bettas so, the betta will attack them most likely.

I would say: a betta and maybe 3-4 pygmy cories. They are cute fish, seems like they get along fine to me.
