I am making an old 60 gallon tank of mine i previously used for reptiles into a fish tank.
I have a 40 gallon one in the corner right now that i keep 2 angel fish in and few other fish that is not planted.

I am planning on having dwarf riccia/riccia fluitians on the bottom using a method i read on another post and also java moss and java fern. What other easily to take care of/fast growing plants do you recommend?I read that for the riccia i will probly most definatly need C02 injections.Does riccia have to have C02 to grow/live?

For the fish i am going to stick to smaller fish such as neon tetra, white cloud fish, gold barb, guppies, myer hatchet fish, cories, ghost shrimp, red cherry shrimp, and glassfish. I planned on putting my angel fish into the future 60 gallon i am planning here but i think the large agel fish may chase/eat? the smaller fish. The smaller black angel i have is shy and never chases or nips so i was planning on putting him in the 60.Will these fish live together?I have researched and picked them as they are said to be community fish that live in same temperatures/pH lvls but i would like to hear what you guys think about it.

Also i decided on sand instead of rock gravel, the plants should be ok in this if its deep enough right?
and is there any filters that you suggest?i am not that happy about my penguin filter in my 40g

Thanks for any help :hi:

I'm not sure about using the tank for fish when it previously had a reptile in it. Someone else will probably chime in to let you know that issue. As far as the plants go, java moss and java fern do not need a lot of light and I doubt it will need co2 injections. Usually that is for plants that require more light. Other plants that you may want to try would be anubias and most forms of crypts. These plants do not need a lot of light and should fill out your tank nicely.

Watch the angel in the bigger tank. It is a good idea for the angel to have that size tank but that being said the other fish you have listed may eventually become food for the angel;such as the neons. Anything the angel can fit in his mouth he will eat. If you keep him in with these fish, keep a close eye on him. Things can change overnight as far as behavior goes. Friend one day, next day food.

What size filter are you running that you are not happy with? Also sand is a great substrate in a planted aquarium. If you want a dark substrate, try eco-complete. It comes with the good bacteria already in it and it looks way cool. I have it in my 46 bow front tank with the neons, cories, and pleco, soon more discus(have to restock because of a tragedy with the heater),and I find it very easy to take care of and I love it. However, it is a little on the pricey side. I hope this helps.

Be happy!

i used the 170 bio filter penguin and the wheel part broke after a month or two

i asked on another forum and i got the same response about angel fish there, i thought that might happen but i was hoping my black smaller angel would have been ok until he was an adult because he is shy and smaller but i will not risk it

but i really like the riccia and i thought i would pretty much have to use C02 but i am getting mixed reactions about C02 some saying you don't need it only if you want it to grow faster and healthier

well thanks for the response i will check out the eco sand
