$7 roselines back at Petsmart

I haven't been to 6th Ave (yet?) but have heard it's really about the price with them, not health or quality. I have bought from "lesser" stores on occasion with mixed results. Sounds like they're in the "must quarantine" group of places like most, there's almost nowhere I don't QT from. But the warehouse type of sellers is also where many LFS get their fish, it's a crap shoot...& not 1 I'm willing to gamble much on.
yeah it is a crap shoot but the price i think is the hardest part for me to pass up honestly. after seeing a fish there for 99c and it costing 4-7$ local im willing to take the chance. it would be even harder if i were a salt guy, i mean a black clownfish up here is 40$ min but down there 8.99. i will say that their stock is always changing so i assume it goes fast. and i guess being a student with little money the price is really attractive.

Personally, If they allow Catch your own.. I would pass on that. Even though ive got more then 30 years into aquaria and I even worked for several year at a great LFS I dont approve of anyone but the employee to catch what I want. Im sure I would do just fine but how do I know the person before me didnt hurt the fish I want. Or drop him on the ground and just toss him back or any of that. One thing I see more and more is What id call improper Net keeping at LFS and chains. When I was working in it we used buckets that were filled with Net Dip. Its a disinfectant sorta for nets. It kills any bad stuff with no harm to the fish. Nets should b kept in it when using them for multiple tanks like in a store. Anyhow.... If price is what does it for you I can understand. I shop with trying to find the right price. BUT I also wont let the price get in the way of what I feel is right and by the sounds of this place what they are doing is far from right. Do they have a fresh water fish Guarantee? Id rather spend a buck or 2 more and get better fish and better service.

My Petsmart had 3 roseline barbs left (at $4.54) and I asked for all of them, but unfortunately the inexperienced girl working the fish dept that day wasn't good at netting fish and the roselines were in the top row of tanks, so she got on the rolling ladder and the first one she tried to get jumped out as she was trying to net him and the fall killed the poor fish :(

But, the other two are at home safe in my tank for now!

I was not familiar with this fish but after reading this thread and how excited everyone was about them, I went to one of the Petsmart's near me a few days ago to see if they had any. And they did. They were very nice looking fish. They had 7 but I only got 4. They were $3.49 ea. So these are really $19 at some places? WOW.

They had some great sale prices on other fish too. They had fancy guppies for $1 (which I've seen before). They just had a few left that were not all that great looking, except for one incredible looking half white, half purple guppy with beautiful flowing tail that looks as good as some show guppies that I've seen pics of. So I got that one guppy for $1.

I got 4 lamp eye tetras for $1 ea. I've always skipped over them when looking at fish there but these too were $1 each so I looked closer at them for awhile and they are awesome! They just never caught my eye before but cheap will do that sometimes :)

And the most amazing price in the whole store..... black ghost knife fish, about 3"-4" for $8.99 ea. They were sold out. I was there just a week ago and they had a 'sale' price on them at $14.99 and I thought that was a decent price and they were VERY nice looking. Very deep, rich black color, excellent condition. I didn't have space for them (was just going to get one in a tank by itself). But at $14.99 I had hoped they would still have some in a week or two. But the girl there said this past Friday they went to $8.99 and all sold within hours.

I also picked up a couple of male sunburst platys to go with some females my son has in one of his tanks. One of those died 2 days later, but everything else I listed above that I got is still doing great. The roselines have darker and more visible stripes now than they did at the store and everything is eating well. I know Petsmart gets a bad rap and some stores probably deserve it, but I've had very good success with the two that are near me. I've purchased several fish from them over the past few weeks and have lost two platys in total (purchased at different times).

If they keep having sales like this, I don't know what I'm going to do for space!!!

Seriously? That's awesome! I will have to check. What area are you finding them at?
