Hi, still pretty new to this forum but thought I'd let you in on my project which I've been working on for the past few months.
Began with a 70 gallon aquarium with light, hood, and stand.
For $70
Began with thoroughly cleaning the tank and resealing the edges with new silicone.
Completely sanded down the steel stand and repainted it.
The ballast on the light fixture was all corroded and did not work at all, so I had to replace the ballast.
Worked on it for about a month or so in the garage before I brought it into the house.
When finally setting it up I read a post about the proper way to cycle a tank which is to take some of the good bacteria from another filter from a healthy tank and apply all that good stuff into the new filter (Currently running an Eheim 2217 Canister)
Well, along the way I got some plants and wood. The wood stained my whole tank a reddish brown, but I heard somewhere that fish like the stained water so I decided to leave it for now.
Its been about three months now working on this project and today I did my forth water change and finally cleared the water. Had a snail problem, but spent two days going on a snail killing spree and now the snail army seems to have weakened:lol:
Here is what's in the tank:thm:
Plants:
Amazon Sword
Rotala Indica
Corkscrew Vallisneria
Spiralis
Red Rubin Sword
Willow Moss
Java Moss
Duckweed
And two other species I don't know..
Fish:
Red Eye Tetras
Neon Tetra
Glowlight Tetra
Molly
Gourami
Hatchet Fish
Whiptail Catfish
Bristle Nose Pleco
Cherry Shrimp
My water mixture is a 2 tablespoons of epsom salt, and 3 tablespoons of sea salt.
For the plants, I use one cap full of Seachem Flourish, Comprehensive supplement once a week.
