I just bought a 75g bowfront with stand off craigslist for $150:) I was originally looking for a lid for my 55g, but saw this deal instead, so I decided I'm going to sell the 55g. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out what kind of cichlids to stock it with, but especially what light and filtration system I should buy. I went to a LFS and they recommended a T5 for the light (gives better colors and last longer apparently). When I was going to do a 55g, I was looking at penguin and emperor filters, but now I'm not sure vs. a canister filter for the 75g. Any suggestions?

Note: I'm a college kid with not a whole lot of $$$$, but I would like to get something quality and durable (I know from working in home theater that those aren't always synonymous). I also need to get glass tops....any suggestions on models, prices, or places to buy any of this would be great!

Thanks

I would run a canister and an HOB.

The range of cichlids is huge, can you narrow it down a bit?

I run a Cascade 1200 (Canister for 65 Gallon) and an Aqua Clear 70 on my tank... If I had it to do over, I would have bought an AC 110 instead, but as it is, it works great.

Hard to argue with RB's advice. Two types of filtration is always nice. And you have one of them to fall back on if something goes wrong with the other.
T5s work great for me. You can get by with fairly low wattage since you are keeping Cichlids and won't be able to keep most leafy plants anyway.
