alright. i own a 75 gal aquarium with one tiger oscar and one jd. niether of them are fully grown. can a needlefish survive with them or will they rip it apart? i really want a needlefish, so i may decide to either put the JD or oscar up for adoption. which should i choose?

don't really know much about needlefish, but that oscar would be confined in the 75 gallon by himself, i wouldn't even think of having in a 75 with others.

Needlefish are lazy and chill at the top of the water, an Oscar or a JD would only harass them, if you're wanting a Needlefish I would say adopt out both the Oscar and the JD, and go with a couple Needlefish. Remember the Needlefish is actually a species of Gar.

where do you get gar? my cousin had one and it was really cool. like the only reason i want needlefish is because i really want a gar and the needlefish reminded me of them.

South American Freshwater Needlefish, Silver Gar, Hujeta Pike Characin, Slant-nosed Gar
Ctenolucius hujeta hujeta

Synonyms: Ctenolucius hujeta, Luciocharax insculptus, Xiphostoma hujeta

Physical description: An elongated, slender fish with a long snout and mouth. The body color is silver while the fins are transparent. The tail is forked and has a black spot at its base. The upper jaw is slightly longer than the lower. This fish may have golden to blue iridescence depending on lighting.

Social behavior: A predator that can only be combined with other large fish of the lower swimming levels. Keep in pairs or in groups.

Also they'll only eat live prey such as Rosy Red Feeders. If it isn't live they wont touch it.

ok, but where do i buy them? like petco and petsmart sure don't sell them....

alright. thanks! and a gar would fair better with an oscar? (;
or possibly a pike karisson? (sp?) my cousin had one and it was pretty cool.
