I'm new to salt water and looking to setup a 75 gallon reef tank i'm wondering if someone could recommend the equipment that would be needed so that coral will flourish in the tank

When you say "so coral will flourish" have you decided what kind of coral you want to have - SPS, LPS, Softies, etc? The major effect is lighting (PC vs MH vs T5). If you are going to mix corals - leathers and others that would yield another group of suggestions.

to be honest with u i'm not really sure what kinds of coral i would like to have i've just been looking for equipment so i'll be ready for the coral when i can afford it. What would you recomend and what is needed for the different types of coral???
I'd start with the book The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Bob Fenner. Great beginners guide and useful even once you've had some experience. It will answer all sorts of questions and help you understand some of what you need to consider so you can even begin to answer questions about what you want.
