so the bubbles are coming out steadily, and going into the intake of the cannister. but earlier i could see like really tiny bubble getting shot out of the filter output. now there isn't as much and every once in a while the filter shoots out A LOT of bubbles. kinda like the co2 is building up in the cannister before it is being pushed out of the filter.

I know what you're talking about... how powerful is the canister filter? Mine is very small (less than 70gph) and although I just set it up, it's happening to mine too and I think my filter just isn't strong enough to blast the co2 out as it comes in...

the idea is that there arent any bubbles..
the co2 should dissolve into the water.

I use a diffuser, not the canister method, so I am sure there will be more responses to this.

I have a fluval 404 and was diffusing my co2 through that. The bubbles will be trapped at the top of the canister but with the constant water movement will be diffused. So its normal to not see the filter shoot out a mist of bubbles..

There's your answer.

ok, but every once in a while it just shoots out a lot of bubbles and air. and sometimes i do see little bubbles coming out of the filter. but they are like super tiny.

how else can i test the level of co2 without a drop checker?

testing the ph and hardness or w/e of the tank water. I say the drop checker is the easiest and cheapest.
They also say a one point drop in ph = 30ppm but this is tricky since every water is different. One may contain more buffers.
