Hi everyone, I hope you can help. I have a ten gallon tank i and really want a pacus. i was wondering if it is big enough be for one pacus, or do they they need groups to travel in? any help is great. i was also wondering what kind of "toys" the pacus likes, such as plants and stuff.

Thanks!

Read this,

then do a search on Pacus, Redtail & Shovelnose Cats, various sharks (Cats) such as Iridescent or Paroon ect...
You'll find there are alot of fish that should not be sold to the average citizen.
They get too darn big, need too big of a habitat, cost a fortune to feed and are almost impossible to adopt out when they grow too large for your tank.

If your a troll, stroll away...
If your dense, I suggest enlightenment...
If your just uninformed and try to learn, then your in one of many websites that'll help you educate yourself...

stores just shouldnt sell pacu's period
how many people buy them and dont have a clue on how huge they get and how fast it happends.
sure they are cute, all babies are, but their rapid growth makes them nearly impossible to keep for more than a few months. and i dont know many people with 2,000 and up aquariums
save yourself the heartache and dont get pacu's
if you upgrade to a larger tank someday you can try silver dollars, they look similiar but dont grow as huge. they get big, i believe 12"? (correct me if im wrong) you would still need at least a 75 gallon to house a few. they like to school and are skittish in small numbers

Most varieties of SD's average 5-6", the Redhook SD's average 6-8", with a few getting alittle larger.
They do do best in a school of 5+ fish, 3+ is do'able but as stated they can be skittish in smaller schools.
If I was to make a "inch per gallon rule" for stocking SD's I would say "1.75-2. gallons per inch, so a five adult (5-6") SD's would need aprox 55-60gals IMO.

read the pacu eusinisation sticky
