A Pacus question

ashdavid that picture under your post, what kind of fish is that? someone posted an earlier pic asking the id of the fish and it looks similiar to yours

actully silver pacus only get 11in

ew wait thats a picture of a silver dollar?
stop confusing me lol
silver dollar = silver pacu? that doesnt look like a silver dollar

silver pacus aren't the same as silver dollars. the dollars are a much smaller and more delicate looking fish, the pacus are big awesome beasts.

and the world breathes a sigh of relief :p:

:read:

This is not a SD, this is not a SD by another name, its a Silver Pacu,
Scientific Name: Colossoma brachypomus
Family: Characidae
Origin: Upper Amazon
Adult Size: 18 inches (200 cm)
Social: Peaceful, but grows very large
Lifespan: 10 years
Tank Level: All levels
Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallon
Diet: Herbivore, eats plants
Breeding: Egglayer - not bred in aquariums
Care: Difficult
pH: 4.8 - 6.8
Hardness: 15 dGH
Temperature: 73-82 F (23-28 C)

Seems his friend 'could' have two adult full grown Silver Pacus in a 150gal tank. They 'could' even be relatively healthy, though if they were raised in that environ I doubt they would have reached their full potential, not necessarily stunted but just not max potential. They would still be atleast the 11" noted earlier, but with the potential for 18", still a big fish.

But NTT,
Your 6-7" SP's are more likely mis-ID'd SD's. That or they are not full grown or severely stunted if they are at their max.

i wouldnt put a pacu in a 10 EVER!!!! theyll outgrow that in what.... a week! maybe less. im not the best aquarist but i do know not to put pacus in a 10g. i would keep them in a 200g or larger tank. those guys are huge.... i saw a picture of a 6footer on teh internet once awhile back.

and i sure hope im not a troll,
Troy
