A pond from a bathtub?

Hello,

Is it okay to use an older cast iron bathtub as a pond? I wanted to bury it and create either a fountain or waterfall re-circulating pond, and possibly add fish after I learn the proper maintenance.

Some questions:

-- It's white inside the tub area -- should it be painted black or gray or could river rock be cemented to the inside surface?

-- Will the bottom unfinished part rust and possibly hurt nearby plants or get into the water supply?

-- Is the bottom drain a good place for the recirculating plumbing or would it be hard to access if there was a problem?

The tub is incredibly heavy and I'd rather recycle it than have to send it to the dump, so I'm trying to figure out if this is a good idea or not.

Any advice or caveats would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The color is an astetics thing. The pond wont care what color it is. You can cement rock to the side but I believe you will need to scuff up the porceline (sp) sides of the tub to make it stick.

Yes it is a good place for the plumbing but yes it would be hard to acess if there is a problem.

Is this one of the old fashioned claw foot variety or the newer type made to be built in. If it a claw foot you could leave it above ground and plant flowers around it.
