Hey everyone I am wanting to build an above ground pond for my turtles. I can't go in ground like normal as I rent my house. I will also need ideas on how to keep dogs and kids out. It will be in my back yard with the dogs and where the kids swingset is. I have 4 kids they are 7, 5, 3, and 1. I have drawn up some designs as close to scale as possible. They will be attachted. Also I need to know what would be the best type of filter to use for it and what I can do as far as temp wise for the water as I live in arizona. I have 3 red ear slider turtles I will be putting in there and 1 false map turtle. Any type of fish I can put in there with them would be great to know if anyone has any ideas. Also is there anything is I need to know for the above ground pond and other things I can do to decorate it to make it look like a real pond or plants to put in there. And how to put them in there so they can thrive. Any other ideas would be helpful as this is my first pond I am doing. I have had my turtles in a tank since 2009 when I first got them.

Just starting a new job but I will post pictures when I get some of it done. It might be a month or two before I am ready to start. Any ideas before would be awesome.

You could add floating plants, lilypads planted in a planter or something. Floating plants will help with the temperature because they will "protect" the water from the heat of the sun. In theory. You can add an area on the side or middle to grow cat tails. That would be cool. I dont know the laws of Arizona but game fish would be cool to have. You can build a fence around this to keep the kids safe and dogs out. But that might not be feasible because you dont own the property.
i dont know what type of filter you would use with this.

Kyle is right about the floating plants to help with temperature regulation and shelter for the turtles wishing to hide in the water. My concern is that your turtles may decide to migrate without some barriers out there around the pond. That's a very big possibility. You may also attract other wildlife, just be aware. Birds, ducks, frogs, deer, etc. will likely flock to your little oasis. As long as you're cool with that and the neighbors don't mind some very loud night sounds, you should be cool. I have a little pond, and every stray dog, bird, and goat stop to drink from it. Dear God the FROGS! Haha!

This is about where I was thinking about putting it. I live in the city and it have to be above ground due to renting the house. I live in the Phoenix valley close to south mountain so there would be mainly birds coming to it. The whole back yard is closed off in the brick fence I. The picture. So only climbing and flying wild animals can get in the main thing is I have 2 dogs that live in the back yard and my kids
