Any suggestions on Acclimating Dragon to new BW tank from FW?
it's just a 10 gallon to start then I'll move him to 55 or so.

I mixed 1/4 "Ocean" brand to every gallon.
Aragonite substrate

1st fishless cycle?
I need to find a thread on that?

He's in FW with a little salt.

If you change your specific gravity slowly, say no more than 0.002 per density change - from 1.000 to 1.002, and wait a couple of weeks between density changes, you are unlikely to lose or damage your nitrificaton bacteria.

This is my first time dealing with salinity levels and the hydrometer.
I’m very intimidated by the process.
It’s probably very simple and just takes time getting used to.
I’m not sure if the needle in my hydro meter is working I am now soaking it in salt water two season it.
But it’s not registering anything at all so I feel that I must be doing something wrong.

I bought Ocean brand - (Marine)
I put 1/4 cup to each Gallon.

The dragon is in FW right now. 180 tank with a small amount of regular aquaria salt.

But I think I should reduce the salt in the new tank that I'm going to cycle-

Because Going from FW to straight up BW would prob. be hard on the fish -
Am I correct? Or does it really matter?

I would cycle the tank in full FW then transfer the fish when the tank is completely cycled. Then raise the Specific gravity 0.002 every weekly water change till you hit the desired specific gravity. No muss, no fuss.

I am really sad he has to go to a new tank.
He really loves the 180 gallon.

But eventually he would suffer.

HE is very active and playful now.

I'm trying to change a fw tank to brackish as well. How do I add the marine salt? Can I start with say 1 tablespoon of salt in the filter then after the next water change put 2 tablespoons, then 3 and so on until I reach my desired salinity level? Do I have to premix water to do the change over? If so, what should be the salinity of the premix? Can I just get a gallon of water, add a tablespoon of salt, mix it and let it sit, and then use it for a water change? As you can tell, I'm really nervous about doing this

Buy a rubbermaid container that is exactly 25% of the volume of your tank, or whatever the volume of water you change a week is. Pre-mix the salt overnight in it, heat it and mix it with a small powerhead and heater. DO NOT raise the salinity more than 0.002 a week, a specific gravity being raised that quickly will kill off the beneficial bacteria and cause a mini-cycle. Keep raising the specific gravity every week 0.002 until you reach your desired salinity. DO NOT add the salt directly to the tank, the way I explained is the only way to safely do it. It has to be pre-mixed.
