Thinking about going to a larger aquarium. Can't decide on glass or acrylic. Would like to have this reef ready overflows and drilled. Will set this in the basement and have to go down some steps and make a turn at the bottom. Would like to be 100 gallon plus....don't think any larger than a 150 though. Any thoughts on the matter. What do you have or had (glass or Acrylic) Thanks, Cooder

Acrylic scratches easier than glass, but scratches can be more easily removed from acrylic.

Acrylic is much lighter than glass.

Acrylic is clearer than glass.

Acrylic tanks have larger top pieces/braces - glass tanks are more open.

Acrylic is a better insulator than glass.

Acrylic is expensive. Glass is less so.

Acrylic is MUCH easier to drill for plumbing.

Acrylic tanks are bonded together - not siliconed together.

I have acrylic tanks for two main reasons:
1. I live in earthquake country
2. I think they look a lot better than glass

The biggest disadvantage is the 'scratchability' (new word?) of acrylic. I haven't had a big problem with this though because I am very careful.
