One of my female gouramis has been acting funny lately. She has not been swimming around at ALL. She stays in one spot and kinda floats forward and backwards. She is always under the plants that cover the surface of the water. She use to swim like crazy and even though she is the smallest, was the most aggressive in the tank. I recently put a male gourami in my tank. I know the gouramis lay eggs in plants that are on the surface of the water. Is this a normal behavior around the male or should I be worried about her?

She hasnt been eating as much either. She has no discoloration to her scales, and no problem with her fins except for the small part where the shark bit her.

Thanks
Deanna

hmmm.....has your gourami been acting like this before or after the male joined the tank? If it was before then maybe it has an internal infection/disease that is not visable to your eye...how are your water perametres? Have you been regularly matianceing the tank/doing regular partial water changes? If it is after, then maybe it night have something to do with the male joining the tank, but I am not sure about that one. Well let us know more about your tank water, ect. Good luck,

I check my water levels and they were all fine. I have been doing water changes regularly and have been checking the water weekly and everything has been fine. I decided to take the female out of the tank and put her into a fish bowl (bad I know, but I dont have a quarintine tank yet) to get a better look at her. She looked fine. There was nothing unusual going on with her scales or gills. She started swimming around like crazy, like she use to. Going really crazy swimming circles in the bowl. So I assumed it was just the male fishy in the tank. But tonight after my study group I found her dead in the tank. So something was obviously wrong, but I have no clue as to what it is.

Acting funny too

Any ideas on what it could have been?, My gold gourami is doing the same, although the rest of them seem happy, there are no visible signs of injuries or problems with gills etc. Should i add a general antibiotic just in case?
