I have a 115 g with a pair of synspila (about 8" and 6"), a fm temporalis (9"), a bahia red brasil. (3.5"), and a 10"+ pleco. After having a few uncompatible mixes, the tank has now achieved quite a nice chemistry and compatibility. AS of now I forsee no real overcrowding. I keep the water rather well maintained.
A LFS has a pretty brilliantly colored pair of turquoise severums (heros severus) that they breed and I've kind of been itching to pick up a couple of the juv's, where ultimately one would be kept and put into the 115. The larger male syn is constantly only concerned with the smaller fm which I hear is common for a pair of syns (also do fm syns tend to be more of a purple colored as opposed to the lighter pinker male?). The temp. likes to assert herself from time to time, usually when laying eggs, but nothing severe at all.
I've had a Gold severum before, and think that the addition of that type of fish would be good. I have heard that heros severus is not quite the same species as the gold or green sevs. Are they relatively the same in terms of size, temperament, etc.? Do you think this would be a good idea? And if so what size do you think I could/should add the sev to the tank. Also, Any idea about whether it should be fm or male? It seems the male syn will be dominant, but he still seems to care only about the other syn.
