I have a 75 gallon tank with various rainbows, 2 clown loaches, a gold spotted pleco, and some small tetras and two congo tetras. I also have a betta in a 2 gal. tank. My husband suggested that we put the betta in the larger tank, but I was worried this might not be a good idea.

I've looked over the threads and seen where others have put their betta in a community tank, but what is the opinion about one so large and with the fish I have? Any chance of him being nipped? Would it be good for him or not?

Thanks for any advice!

Candace

Well I have read that Congos can be a bit on the nippy side, and many other tetras are as well. That being said if they are well fed and there are lots of sight line blocks then maybe it can be done. If you do try it then just make sure to do a fin check everyday for awhile and see how things are going. If things look nippy then grab a net and move him back to his little 2 gal home.

On the same token, and from personal experience, some bettas if they start getting nipped at get a serious attitude and are liable to go kick the crap outta the fish doing it, so if you do move him over into the 75 watch out for that. Like TKO said though just keep an eye on things and hope for the best. GL

if you try it make sure theres a calm part of the tank and have some tall plants there for the betta to hide and rest on so he would be near the surface, since they aren't deep swimming fishes and likes to come up for air.

i have a beta in mine, he prefers the bottom portion of the tank most of the time. i wouldnt recommend putting him in the tank tank though, it limits the types of fish you can put in the community tank
