I know you're supposed to remove carbon...But what about Purigen?

I assume since its the same basic idea you would need to remove the Purigen, but since the Purigen removes different products than the carbon should it be left in?

If I ever have to use any sort of medications I take any chemical media out. Would you really want antibiotic residue on your purigen pouch possibly leaching it onto your biofilter? I don't know if that is the medication you want to use but just giving it as an example. Purigen will also nuetralize any organic meds like melafix rendering them ineffective. Just save yourself the hassle and take it out until you are done medicating.

Yeah I already had removed it, just looking for confirmation mostly.

I'm using Melafix for fin rot, which I know is being brought on by stress. My water parameters are perfect, even before I did the WC today everything was 0 and nitrates were only 20 ppm.

**** tax check should have been here last week, so everyone should be split up by next weekend but I didn't want to let it get worse.

The directions say to dose daily for 7 days and then do a waterchange. Every post I've read says to do waterchanges daily. Which is it?

While I have my Purigen out of the tank I may as well rejuvenate it. Do you soak it in pure bleach or do you do a 1:1 mix with water?

edit: I found it on the website..1:1

I use a 1:1 solution of bleach/water. Then I dechlorinate it and use vinegar (dilute water/distilled vinegar solution) to nuetralize the caustic soda contained in bleach. Rinse it very well (no viniger smell left) and re-use.

Should I do a 25% WC daily, every other day or as the instructions say just at the end of the week of treatment?

I don't know if the melafix needs to become more concentrated as the week goes on or if it just wears out and needs to be reintroduced ( in which case I see no problem doing the 25% WC daily) .
