I've kept ADF's before and had major problems with them getting stuck in my aquaclear filter and dying. Well, I'm starting up a new 10g to take to college and I'm going to try my hand at them again. This time, however, I'll be using a sponge filter and a Tetra internal power filter. Basically my plans for this tank are:

sand substrate
low light plants
ADFs
Cherry Shrimp
MTS
Kuhli Loaches or Cories?
Non-bottom dweller fish

Any suggestions on stocking levels (how many of each should I get)? Does anyone have any experience with ADFs and shrimp - will the ADFs eat the shrimp? Too much activity on the bottom with all those bottom dwellers? Any input would be great.

P.S. I think the Petco employees think I'm a weirdo lol. I go there to check out their stock and come up with ideas for what to put in my tank. So,
I spend a half hour to an hour just staring at their fish only to leave without buying any. Haha. Oh boy, I guess I am a weirdo.

Hm, yea I figured the tank might be too small for kuhlis or even cories. I just figured, hey if I'm gonna have sand I might as well have some fish that will enjoy it. Back to the drawing board...

you could get pygmy cories. ADF's might try to eat the shrimp, but i think the majority would escape unscathed as i don't really consider adf;s very adept hunters. I would go with something like ember tetras for fish, they are small, active, lovely, and great schoolers.

sorry, i dont have any suggestions on ADFs (i actually didnt know what that was until i googled it upon seeing this post yay acronyms!) but on a side note, i stare at the fish at the store for hours without buying anything so dont think anything of it. they are open for a reason. window shoping is cheap.

My daughter has an ADF with cherry and ghost shrimp. The frog seems to be oblivious to the shrimp. The shrimp population is increasing nicely, so if the ADF manages to catch one (which I seriously doubt--not the world's brightest creature) most are surviving just fine.

The frog also coexists with dwarf platies. We do target feed the frog to make sure she eats, otherwise they get along well.

my hubby has bred ADF's! if u want u can put a sponge filter sponge on th intak of the filter so that no one gets stuck on there. Kuhlis are very cute, u should get 2-3 though they like groups. I have pygmy cories they veyr nice for smallish tanks. I also have aspidoras which also stay small.

I've never seen ADF bother even shrimp, they are extremely docile, even needed to use a syringe to squirt food down to where they were

Pygmy gourami for the top portion. They're very nice. White Cloud Mountain Minnows could work, but most people will negate that because they are technically a coldwater fish.
ADFs and cherry shrimp are enough for your bottom.
