Advice - Inspection Sticker Fruad - What Should I Do?

www.carfax.com

5 carfax reports for 44.99 - worth every penny. ALWAYS use this when purchasing a used vehicle. We just bought a used one off of CL 2 months ago, got a really good deal -- but one of the cars that we had looked at, the mileage had been rolled back by like 75,000 miles and we only knew because of the carfax report.

after many failed attempts, we finally got a hold of the guy who is denying it, but yet cant give a reasonable explanation. Hes all like.. well maybe the kid at the shop was trying to make some extra money.. but that makes no sense because you pay for the sticker if the car passes or not, and there is no reason for him to risk stealing a sticker to put on a customers vehicle unless the customer bribed them or something..... we didnt really get anywhere with him, so we decided to call him back tomorrow after hes had time to think it over and give him one more chance to come clean.

I would call the police. It could be a vin swap from a salvaged car or you could even be riding in a stolen car with a clean cars vin. Your local police departments auto theft unit or NHSP can inspect the car for free to determine why the vins don't match. Either way it fruad and the seller should be charged criminally. Not to mention you cant get the vehicle properly insured. Criminal charges won't cost you anything but time and you can go through the courts via you state magistrate or attorney to recoup your money. Shoot me a pm if you have any questions about vin swap Ill answer what I can. I have taken a few auto theft investigation classes.

Call the police and call a lawyer.

This is the only advice you need. The person who sold the car either did this on purpose or not. It's not your job to investigate. The police will do that, and the lawyer will get your money back (minus fees).

The average billing rate for lawyers is over $200 per hour. The car that is in question cost $1,600. This isn't going to be the kind of case where you don't have to pay until you settle, this would be a matter for civil claims court.

By the way, lemon laws only apply to new vehicles in NH:

Have you called any authorities at all at this point? The DMV would be first on my list, then the police, although I'm not sure they can do anything for you other than escort you, as was mentioned before.

Wondering what happened with this? Any luck getting your $$ back?

I was wondering too...keeping my fingers crossed for you!

This is why I've held on to my 2004 Honda Civic even though I'm sick of it...it's payed for, and I hate dealing with dealerships, although I would probably go with a dealership just to have something to fall back on in case something wasn't right immediately afterward.

Any news???
