Hi, I have a 50 gal planted aquarium which is currently housing some platties, a pair of dwarf gouramies, 5 otos, 2 gold ancistrus, 1 siamese algae eater and a few ghost shrimp. I'd like to add different fish into the mix but I would appreciate some advice on which ones would be compatible. I am considering introducing 1 male betta and perhaps a couple of small angel fish. Can anyone tell me if they have had experiences with a mix like this?

I read contradicting articles about mixing bettas and dwarf gouramies. Some places say it is fine to house the two in one aquarium, and others say not to. Also, any opinions on the small angel and betta mix would be appreciated too.

Thanks in advance! :)

I'm not sure about the Betta in that mix. I;ve heard of aggressive Dwarf Gouramis too, but I guess if the tanks big enough...You might either wanna loose one or the other. I wouldn't have both the Gouramis and a Betta, then Angels on top of that together. They are all aggressive, if they need to be, and they will be if they feel they need to be I promise! Your tank sounds like it wil be nice if you add perhaps 2-3 Angels! No more though! I am wondering if you will be full then, or if you can add a small school of tetras to the mix to add some color and schooling. Good luck! Bigger Tetras will work best with the Angels. Remember to accilmate them slowly, and possibly Quarantine them if you can! Angles can be sensitive (mine weren't though) stress easy, but beautiful if you are successful with them!

I kept a betta with a dwarf gourami. The betta would occasionally puff up at the dwarf, but that was it. I love angels, but just remember, they don't stay small:)

You would be OK doing this. Bear in mind that you will not successfully breed the platys with a fighting fish or angels in their; they are excellent ambush predators of small live foods.

It does depend on the number of platys. A large number would not be a good thing because they are quite active fish and may disturb the peace-loving angelfish.

First, thank you for your replies.

I currently have 9 platys, however, I'm thinking of reducing that to 6. Would that be suitable for angels in a 50 gal tank?

I'm not sure yet if I will add a betta and angels, I'm still kind of worried about the harmony in the tank...

Thanks again.
