Currently I have 2 red wagtail platies, 3 spotted cories, and 6 zebra danios in my 20 gallon tank (as well as a javafern and plastic plants). I know I don't have room for much more. Is a betta compatible with this group? Can a dwarf guarami be happy alone? Would a school of 5 tetras be too much for this tank? Would the platies be happier in a larger group (not that they seem unhappy.)? So far, this group gets along very well. The danios and corys swim together. Sometimes the platies even hang with them. They're great fun to watch!

I think that you could do without the tetras and just add a few (2-3) more FEMALE platies. If you add both male and female, you'll end up with 358,717,987,165,417,978,214 babies in about a month. The danios may eat some though. My recommendation is as follows:
1 male platy
3 female platies
6 zebra danios
5 cories (they liked to be kept in groups of 4-5+

1 male platy
3 female platies

I would say make sure you have a 2/1 female to male ratio among the platies (if you have a male and a female, get another female, if you have 2 females, they're fine alone, and if you have 2 males, get 4 females), up the cories to 5 (of the same type), then, depending on your amount of plants and platies, you may be able to get a dwarf gourami, but not a betta, the danios with nip his fins.
My platies are female. I had a lone fry, but I haven't seen it in a couple days--assuming it was somebody's dinner. I'll forget the betta.
