I will be getting some money from our income tax to spend and so it will soon be burning a hole in my pocket. Well a few days ago I was at Walmart and notice they had a nice 5 gallon hex. aquarium with a bio-wheel filter for 28.00 which to me is a great price since most 5 gallon setups around here go for at least 35.00. I know that it's not a big tank but I was thinking of a betta in general, if not possible some other small fish. I've read on other forums that some people hate them or I should say that the filter is to rough for their bettas and others have said that their bettas liked it. Any advise from those on here that may have such a tank size? Also my second thought was to get the 28.00 10 gallon setup aat walmart which would give me alot or a better opportunity to obtain different fish.

I think you would love it for a Betta (and maybe one or two friends) and it would love you! Of course, there's something to be said for representing a whole community with a 10+ gallon, but I'd do it.

a betta would be great!
But just so you know, the ten gallon set ups at walmart are only 30 bucks and you will have alot more for options

Some bettas are fine with filter currents and some just aren't. My bettas loooove the current, but my brother's betta (RIP Tabaqui!) nearly died. Well, he is dead... now.

Make sure the water level i s high enough that the water isn't totally tumbling down.

The 10 gal. setups there have AWFUL filters. Cheep-skates.

well i was figuring if its just gonna be a betta or something it will be really understocked. I have it and the filter works great for me, no water problems....then again i do only have 2 fish in there

   Ya, I'm sure I'd be turned into animal cruelity for that. A few years ago when my dad was living in an apartment in Salem Illinois he bought a 10 gallon and went to walmart and bought 2 or 3 small oscars and 2 or 3 goldfish and I think he put a pleco in there also. He would always have dead fish after awhile and never understood how they were dying, da...I'm thinking it must have been 100's of times overstocked plus he never cycled his tank. Of coarse at the time I wasn't quite sure on the stocking part and cycling of tanks but I figured it was diffently to small for the 2 goldfish let alone the oscars since they get so big.

If I got a 10 I thought about going dwarf or pygmy, I have at the present time a female dwarf platy, I would like to have some dwarf cory's, platy's and even a male dwarf gourami or maybe a pair. I'm not sure if they'd all get along at all especially in that small of a tank but I think a dwarf tank would be nice.

Around here the dwarf cory's are very hard to find haven't found anywhere around here or St. Louis that sells them, if anyone has any ideas on where to get them it would be apreciated.
