Hey everyone. So awhile back i got all of your help stocking my mbuna tank and i got some Afra Jalo Reef. I've had them for a few months now and they don't seem to be growing. At all. When I got them they were ranging in size from 1" to 2" and that's pretty much what they're at now. I have them with Ps. Acei and Yellow Labs and both of them are growing rapidly. Is it normal for them to grow so slowly? Also When do they start to show color. They are currently a nice dull shade of gray. Thanks!

The Afra are a dwarf species, so they're growth may seem slower than the others, maybe only getting to 3-4". If they never grow at all after a while more, then there may be some physical defects IMO. As far as color goes, you may have all females. I keep and breed Jalos, and I can start to see dominant males start to show color before they get to 1".

The person i bought them from online said they ship two males to four females. I should have at least two. :swear: And the dwarf species makes sense, they do seem to be growing just very slowly compared to the others. Thanks everyone!!! :thm:

I've never done it(venting), but it seems that sexing them at that size is very difficult at best from what I've read. Usually I sell them unsexed, unless I see a positive dominant male or a holding female. Regardless, if you do have all females, you'll have a nice harem for a lucky male if you can get your hands on one!
