Probably not....Discus are very shy and the cichlids can be very aggressive. It's usually a better idea not to mix the cichlids with other types of fish....but of course, there are exceptions to every rule...lol...take the blue ram for instance...a dwarf cichlid species that can do very nicely in a community tank and in fact.....would probably get along quite well with discus if there are lots and lots of plants in the tank, which both species love.
ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NOT!!! A small african cichlid would rip a whole tank of Discus to bits, either by directly attacking or intimidation/chasing/food snatching. Discus are VERY easily spooked and stressed (trust me I know) so small laid back tankmates are a must!!! I almost lost 2 heckels because they were stressed by the neon tetras speeding around after food and would not eat. I will make sure I add the discus first with my next tank even if it involves moving the other fish out for a few days, let them get comfortable first since they are the center piece of the tank and cost $100+ for full grown fish.
No kidding... listen to the experts.. the people who KNOW what will happen.
Unless, of course, you want to kill some pretty and expensive fish for thrills.
