I am at a loss of what these kinds of africans are called i think the man at the LFS said they are called keeneyes they are blue, long and thin ... does anyone know what i am talking about or know of a site where i can find a picture of these

I think what you are talking about is a Kenyi, or Maylandia lombardoi.

yeah thats it thank you...
so how do you tell the male from the female
is it color or something else

Mature males will become all yellow. Females and immature males (and sometimes sub-dominant males) will be blue with dark blue vertical stripes.

One of the reasons kennyi are such bad tankmates for yellow labs is that the male kennyi will beat the heck out of the labs, as if they were competing male kennyi.

well i have 2 of them in a 30 gallon tank with about 10 other convicts (small about a 1/2 inch) and they seem to do fine with them but i am trying to give away all but 2 of the convicts and get some other colored fish.

Mentioned this in your other topic... but africans and convicts should not be kept together.

Agreed and a common mistake not to do research before buying fish. Not too late to learn from it and take either the africans back or the convicts.
