african dwarf frogs or cherry red shrimp

I've got a five hex I'd like to redo, but I'm undecided as to the occupants. What I have in mind are both basically bottom feeders. The tank setup would, however, allow for lots of vertical movement (plants/decorations) for something like shrimp.

I've never kept cherry red shrimp before, and to be honest, I have no access to them locally. I'd have to find a supplier, which probably means online, which I've never done for live fish, which makes me nervous (plus, I hate paying a ton for shipping). I can easily find the african dwarf frogs in two stores less than a mile from where I work, which is also where my tanks are, so that makes things easier there.

Or, I guess I could do both, but I don't know if the frogs might decide to munch on the shrimp. Any experience with this?

Hey there. I have previously kept these two together in a community tank, and learned that the eyesight of ADF's is not so good, and cherry shrimp are very quick to dart out of the way of anything that comes toward them. I did once have a female betta, who nearly decimated my shrimp population in the 10g. It is possible that the ADF will try to snap at the shrimp, as shrimp are a favorite food of theirs, but will unlikely be successful. This setup never resulted in any noticeable loss of shrimp, in my experience.

If you give your shrimp some plant cover to hide in, there is no reason you can't keep them together.

I love my shrimp, and I love the supplier of them even more. Shes right here on AC. Her name is msjinkzd and she has to die for inverts.

There may be a good chance that you have a local aquarium forum or at least one for your state. I thought that there was no way of getting a certain shrimp here in Tucson, checked for forums online and low and behold there were people living right down the street selling shrimp I wanted, and some were even giving them away.

I would do a google search for a local forum.

I tried that once and didn't have much luck, but I'll look again. There might be something around here I missed.
