I just got a Anemone (short blue tip'd) I have 150watt lighting, excellent water conditions.. I added it 2 days ago, and it seems not to be moving at all. In fact it just keeps getting more and more.. "compressed" like its scared or something.

Whats the normal acclemation time for the little sucker?

BTW I have a 55 Gallon salt water, 5 months old, sand substrate, and live coral rock..

Ok.. Now I'm 100% confused

I've searched and searched but I can't seem to find "basic care for you squiggly friend" on the web..

I moved him out from the rock he hid under, and now he's better. but he's upside down (stool part up in the air, tips down on the sand) he won't attach to any rocks, and seems to be just sitting there.

Anyone? please? anything?

Anemone's are hard to keep no matter what you do, generally, however you may have just gotten one that was damaged to begin with.

Temp., Salinity, Lighting, and Current as well as species are all factors for keeping anemones healthy. Nitrates also have to be very very low.

Hard to say really, I bet Orion would know better. I think she has some experience keeping them.
 
An anemone can take a while to acclimate. What need to do is try to make sure that it stays tentacles up, so that it wont suffocate. the oral disc needs to be out of the sand.

Try to keep it low in the tank, building a small circle of rocks to corral it. It will eventually seek the water movement and lighting conditions it prefers in the tank.

Once it has attached itself and has opened somewhat,offer it a small piece of raw shrimp or fish.

Let us know how it's doing.

Ok, thanks! right now it's laying on the sand. i'll throw some little peices of live rock around it. It looks alot better today. the tenticals are more pronounced and well. just sticking up more. the bottom still looks a little off.

It still looks sick. But i'll do my best..

I have a little over 2.3 watts per gallon in my tank right now (triple light fixture) I want to get more live rock, and better lighting.. But GOD the prices.. hehe anyone got a used one? =p

I'll keep checkin in. and if anyone knows "1001 ways to keep a anonomie happy" website. lemme know. hehe

I have experience with anenomes, but it is not very good. The only anenome I've kept long term is a curly-q, not the most desirable species and incredibly hardy. This is why I did not post previously--I have little that I can contribute positively.

In general, moving anenomes is not good. They are much better at knowing what's best for them, and forcibly detaching them causes stress and can damage them. Lighting and feeding are very important factors., Since these creatures are not good shippers, they often come in injured or compromised. The photosynthetic cells within the anenome are important for their survival, which is why lighting is important. Often, inadequate lights will cause them to expel these cells, which is fatal if the anenome is not well fed. Feeding is essential, as is preventing fish from picking on the anenome for its mucus coating and waste products.
 
Lighting is crucial.

At 2.3 WPG you're a bit under powered.

You can't go wrong getting the light levels up 10 WPG. On my 135g I use 3-400w 6500k halides and 4 -165w VHO actinic blues, roughly11 -12 WPG and the lesser light demanding corals are flourishing as well.

Halides do give off quite a bit of heat,but a little ingenuity can cure that problem.

I'm currently looking for replacements that won't cost me an arm and a leg.. But it's tough going.

I don't think the little guys gonna make it. It's not looking to good right now. I try putting some food on it's mouth, and it's kinda laying there like a jellyfish on the beach. :(

The place I got it from didn't have it on anything, just laying on the bottom of the tank. Grrr.
