So, some of you may know about the new AIM virus going around. I guess it shows up sometimes as av.exe or some other thing. You get it in an IM and then it sends the IM to people in YOUR buddy list.

Can you tell it just happened to me?

I don't know exactly what to do. I googled it and came up with some stuff....but mostly it said to look for av.exe in your processes/startup/c: etc. I looked there and I didn't find any they listed.

But in my c:// I did just find m1t.exe. It was created aroudn when I think I got the IM. So, i googled it and I didnt get too much. I tried deleting it and it said it's in use by another person or program.

Can anyone help me out here? I'm computer inept and hubby isn't home yet. I am weary of looking up online because they tell you to download all this crap to fix it and for all I know those are viruses too!

*Worried*

I'm running McAfee right now too, but so far it's got nothing. I also did two spware/adware type scans.

to delete it, you can probably start windows in safe mode, basically you reboot, and before the computer gets chance to show the windows screen , press f8, and there should be an option for safe mode, choose that, go in, delete it and restart.

that might not be the complete solution, but it's a start. (I haven't read anything about the problem at this point.)

your next step might be to do a housecall scan online - www.trendmicro.com it's under the free tools area of the page.

I dunno. I have an Apple computer. I've been using it for the past few months and I almost forgot everything windows lol They don't get viruses thank god

We tried that; it won't work. Even in safe mode it says that it's in use by another person or program. All that I pull up online is for av.exe or bba.exe or b.exe, etc. But I seem to have m1t.exe. I don't know what it's doing....but I can't really use Aim because I think it keeps sending itself to other people.

I really don't know what more to do =(

Looks like jibberish to me too. One piece of advice, after you eliminate the virus, uninstall aim and install Gaim. your buddy list will follow you, but not your profile, but you can recreate that...

in Gaim you're less prone to spyware and viruses, and you can type in display names for your buddies rather than having to remember all their screennames...

Slappy thank you. Someone just recommended that to me and I did it. It says it found two things, but neither were the m1t thing...which is still showing up on the ocmputer and is still not able to be deleted. This is the screen AIMFIX gave me:
