Air Conditioning Water Run Off

A restaurant next door to me (we share adjoining roofs) has just installed a very large air conditioning unit which produces waste water from which I collected 3 litres in a couple of hours and tested it . . Nitrates 0, Nitrites 0, Gh >3d, pH 6.1

Am trying to soften my aquarium water as locally we have fairly hard water with a pH of 8 but before adding a little bit of the AC water each day to help adjust the tank water would like to know whether it is safe.

Have tried looking up the qualities of AC water on the net but can find nothing in relation to aquariums . .

If anything like the water you get from a dehumidfyer (sp.?) a lot of people use this water in their tanks....I have with no problems.

The AC water I would think is just condensation that drips out of the AC unit. If you have a spare tank or a bowl to put some in, let it sit and then take another reading.

I'd try it but a little at a time, every water chang put a little more AC water in.what will you do in the winter?

If the AC water is OK then the winter is no problem. We have lots of rain and our natural stone buildings become quite damp. Many of my friends use dehumidifiers (maybe I'll get one too) and I am sure I can scrounge enough water to keep the right pH level etc.

I've never had problems with the water from a dehumidifer and I've seen people that have a lot of tanks in the same room use them and use the water. If anything you might test for copper but then again your house water is in copper pipes. But I still think that the AC water is ok.

No

I would not use AC water at all, have you ever seen the black slime that plugs up AC lines? And do you know that to keep the black slime from pluging up the line, one runs about 2 cups of pure bleach down the line?

ick.

I woud question AC water, the airborn debris that can come in is uncontrollable, especially if you live in a busy neighborhood. I do use my dehimidifier water, but many people warn against that as well. the major difference between the two is what kind of air is pulled through them IMO.

That’s a disaster waiting to happen. I have seen water, both from my dehumidifier and the water from portable AC units and it is nasty. Stuff is in the water, and standard aquarium testers will not give it away. In addition to this dilemma, you are trying to lower your pH with water that is 6.1. Risky business, I say.

Why?

why do you think you need to lower your pH? What fish are you keeping?

"why do you think you need to lower your pH? What fish are you keeping?" . . .

sorry don't know how to copy from one post to another the clever way that others do :sad . . . . am slowly adjusting my tank so that I can eventually keep Silver Angels.

In the winter I will do exactly what I do in the summer . . . lounge around with my dog Susie :)
