I am running a 20 gallon tank with dwarf gouramies, honey gouramis and bettas. I've been recently told these labyrinth fish prefer when the water surface in the tank is calm. In my tank the airstone creates quite a strong movement of water surface. Should I do smth about it? Or is it not a problem for the fish?
Thank you.

labyrinth fish usually like to hang around the top once a while.

they have less efficient gills when under water but they're capable of breathing atmospheric air if the water lacks oxygen.

you can be sure that in the case where oxygen really lacks, the labyrinth fish will be the last to die (or may not die even).

however they still can survive in your situation in fact they can survive really well, since you have prepare plenty of aeration for them.

i am pretty sure bettas prefer calmer water, but the others i would think would be fine. the only suggestion i would make is to keep the air offset to a side or a corner to minimize the impact of it a little if you are worried. i use air in all of my tanks, i just prefer to, so i would leave it except maybe if you are trying to breed....
