Hey, I have a ten gallon(dorm room) and am running two small air pumps on it, I used to run them 24hr/day but now I only run them 12 hr/day beause of the roommates and all. do you think this will be alright?

I never run my airpump!

But that is b/c I use the power filter.

What kind of filter are you using on your ten gallon tank? If the airpump is used for the filter (undergravel filter or internal filter) then it might not be too good for the fish. But if you use a power filter and use the airpump for just decoration or supplementary oxygen, then it wouldn't be much of a problem.

I have a 10gal tank in my dorm room also. I wouldnt think you would need 2 air pumps running. I have one small pump to supply Oxygen to my tank. I cant even hear my pump running, and i have the diffuser so it doesnt make large bubbles so there is no bubble noise either.
But as far as your question goes, unless you tank is really over stocked you should be fine just running the pump 12 hr/day

I agree, they aren't needed unless they are being used to power an undergravel filter - in which case you would only shut it off for maintenance.
