Due to the hot weather we are having, I was thinking of adding an air pump to get more oxygen in the tank... Is this a good idea? If so, any brand recommendations? Also, will it interfere with my plant growth or CO2?
If you are injecting C02 I would forget it. but if you are not I would say you could. I sometimes have to do this on my tank when the temp goes over 90F. But if its somewhere around 85F I don't think that you will really need them. Rena and Tetra DeepWater are both very good brands. But remember that they both still do make a lot of noise.
He, I have the same set up. I only add an air pump when the fish are gasping at the surface. I try not to let it get to that point, but I'm not with them 24/7.
Is it okay for me to ask an air pump question here? I have a 10 gallon tank with a penguin 100 with biowheel with 4 corydoras habrosus, 4 rasbora espei, 2 otos and a male betta (and lots of plants). The temp stays between 76 and 78. I do not have CO2 but add Flourish excel. I was told I should leave my airstone on all the time for extra oxidation for my fish. However, the tank is in the bedroom and my boyfriend hates the noise of the pump. I had been only turning it on when the tank got above 80. I have had it off for the last few days because it's been so cool here and they all seem to be doing fine (and the betta prefers it off).
Well I would say to take it out of your bf doest like it. IT doest really add a whole lot of oxygen into the tank. And unless you have some monster fish in the tank there's enough oxygen for everyone. Its more of a show thing. And 80F isn't too hot. At 88F+ is getting to the danger range in most cases.
