I did a large water change yesterday on the tank. Went to feed this morning and saw some eggs on the front glass near the top. This is a community tank with some cardinals, RCS, endlers and the albino cories. I got the few off the front glass and put them in a breeder box until I figured out what I was gonna do. I went to the computer and googled cory breeding and was assured they were cory eggs and that there should probably be lots more somewhere if they hadn't gotten eaten already. I went back to the tank and moved aside plants and found tons of eggs all along the back of the tank. Got a razor blade and was attempting to get them off the back glass and this one cory kept getting in my way. When I looked closer at the cory SHE was carry 3 eggs and was trying to stick them to the outside of the breeder box.

I grabbed my camera and got 2 pics before she was gone again. Sorry they're not that great. I didn't have time to really set up the pics.

I decided to leave them alone for now but shes still putting eggs on the outside of the breeder box.

I've never raised corys so any suggestions on what I do next would be greatly appreciated.

they will be very tiny when born...so much that the breeder box might let them out.
Perhaps a sponge filter on a 5 gal tupperware container might work better. They should hatch in about a week. These eggs are prone to becoming moldy so great water quality is a must. after they are born, liquifry and bbs are great for them.

Good advice xVitox. Terrific pics Kianna and congrats!!! You have several choices but if the breeder box has holes, the tiny fry will drop out of it. When I just have a small amount of eggs I put them in one of those fish speciman containers, hang it inside one of my tanks so the water inside stays warm without having to insert some sort of heater in the container and add a bunch of moss pulled out from one of my tanks and add an air stone to circulate the water. Once they are about a week old, I then transfer them to my 10G cory fry tank and release them into the moss there. At 80F, they will hatch in 3-4 days. Cooler water takes a little longer. I have two old female albinos and 4 old male albinos and those two ladies can literally lay 200 eggs each. That's a lot of eggs!

Thanks for the info! I kind of thought they'd fall out of the breeder box slots. I have a speciman container so I put them in there with an air stone and hung it on the inside of the tank. Looks like about 40-50 eggs. So far they look to be a light golden color. I'm thinking this is their first spawn.....so will they keep spawning now that they've started?

Yes, they will keep spawning now. And the spawns will get bigger. The color sounds good so far. If any are not fertilized, as each day goes by you will see them get more opaque white. It's only been about 24 hours now so a little early to tell. If they do end up hatching do you have some moss that you could throw in the container with them? They'll stay in it for safety and also eat the microorganisms growing in the moss.

Thought I'd update everyone. As of this morning it looks like most of the eggs have fungi. So it looks like this batch isn't gonna hatch. :( Maybe I'll have better luck on the next spawning (assuming there is one).

What a great picture....loved the first one.

Make sure you look really closely before disposing of the eggs that have fungus. My coried spawned on Saturday. I collected a bunch of the eggs and put them in a jar in my tank, near the outflow of the filter. I noticed yesturday that most of the eggs were all fuzzy, so was going to throw them away. Well when I looked really closely in the jar......there were at least a half dozen little tiny catfish. They are so small you can't see them unless they move. I threw some moss in the jar with them, and left the eggs that have fungi on them at least for now. Will the new babies eat them I wonder?

Good luck....
