Hi, my albino rainbow shark has had a slightly swollen belly with a slight greenish tint for some time now. I'm not sure what it is or even if its anything I need to worry about. I though it may be internal parasites so I treated the tank with Tetra Parasite Guard and it's still the same. Is he just fat?
He is in a heavily planted 55gal and all the water parameters are OK. I did find what appeared to be a leach in the tank one time while I was cleaning it but it got away from me, I don't think that could be the issue since leaches attach to the outside. He eats OK and seems to be his normal self. He is about 7" long and about 4 years old. He is really shy but here are some pics I got.
I hope I am just worrying for nothing so I can stop...100_1518.JPG100_1516.JPG100_1515.JPG100_1514.JPG100_1478.JPG100_1517.JPG100_1519.JPG

I noticed last night that my rainbow shark looked a bit "swollen". I googled it this morning and found that since in the wild, there are times they can't get food, they will eat as much as possible whenever they can in preparation for the "dry season".

It appears we may both be overfeeding our sharks. :) I'm hoping it's that simple, anyway. But that's my plan, to cut back on his food.

If you find anything different, as could it be an illness or parasite, I hope you'll post again and let us know.

Thank you for your response MaiaDee. I hope it is that simple as well. I couldn't find anything when I Googled it. I'm glad you did. Since I treated for parasites and he is still the same and he has been that way for a few months I tend to believe it is just what you stated.

I suspected that he may just be a fat little piggy!
Thanks again for helping!
