How rare is it to get Albino Swordtails from Red Velvet Swordtails? Are they worth anything? My Red Velvet Swordtails which usually have normal fry had albino fry quite a while ago. Now my albinos are having albino fry. A month ago they had 15 albino fry and yesterday they had 19 fry. Are these fish going to be healthy or sickly. I have not had any problems so far.

from what little research I've done, it seems like they're supposedly rare, and may indeed be worth a high price.

I've not come across any information pointing to any inherent health problems.

I wasn't aware of any particularly common problems in mammals with albinism aside from poor vision (for example, rats with red eyes (true albino and otherwise) have vision far poorer than those with black eyes) and an increased sensitivity to the sun.

I thought I had a Red Velvet Albino Swordtail to. Does your Swordtail have red or green eyes? If they have regular black eyes then they are not a true albino. They are a Red Velvet Swordtail with a Albino Gene in other words a cross between the two. The cross is not worth anything.

I thought I had Albino Red Velvet Swordtails but some one says Albinos have green or pink eyes. My Red velvet swordtails came out orange almost yellow with a red strip across the center of its body and black eyes. I was told by someone I just have Red Velvet Swordtails with an albino gene. Does anyone know if that is right.
Thanks

Real Albino's have pink eyes. Either it is albino or its not.... sounds far fetched to me.

A fish with reduced but still obvious pigment is considered leucistic--intermediate between wild type and albino.
