Algae Control

I will be using conditioned tap water for my 10g FOWLR. I know I run the risk of battling algae, so what critters should I get to fight it if it does become a problem.

Nope. I have fine sand in my fuge and I have 2 very small nassarius that do just fine. Hermits would be fine. Overtime it seems that the fine sand gets a little packed if it is in a low flow area, in a DT it tends to get blown around depending on your flow rate in the DT. I would absolutely stay away from sand sifting stars or sand dollars.

What is a DT? (don’t have the abbreviations down yet)

Sorry, Display Tank and the fuge is the refugium which is typically part of a sump configuration.

According to this list, the Red legged hermit crab is the best algae eater. How many of those will I need for a 10g. Will they harm other bottom dwellers?

I am thinking about going with Nacariuss snails to site the sand and these guys.

Start of slow ... pick up like 3 nessy 1 turbo and 3 hermits (red or blue). add more as you watch the display tank mature... shouldn't need very many in a tank that size.

The turbo alone probably can clear a wall in 2 nights.
