A few months ago I bought a farowella twig catfish for my 37G tank. The tank did not have much algae, so I worried that it wasn't getting enough food. (I was feeding tetra bottom feeder pellets too since I have loaches and it was eating on those). About a week after I had the twig, I bought it some Hikari algae wafers, the next day it was dead.
This past Friday, the LFS sold me two chinese algae eater, one for my 37 gallon and one for my 10G that has a ton of algae. Monday nite I fed both tanks the algae wafers, but noone ate them. Last nite I fed the wafers again, and the one in the 10G was broken apart, and my algae eater dead. The one in my 37G that I am assuming is eating the sinking pellets is still ok. Could it be these wafers? My other fish in the 10 are great and I just changed the water one day ago.

Sorry to hear about your farlowella! Those little guys require a mixed diet of algae, veggies, and the occasional protein treat. As for the chinese algae eaters. Do a search for them on this forum. You'll see they get big, and agressive, and eventually grow to eat your smaller fish. Might want to take those back and try a bristlenose pleco, or just some snails to keep your tank clean.

You know what...I don't think they are chinese algae eaters after all. I am not sure what kind they are, they aren't plecos, and they don't, according to the LFS get bigger than 3 inches. They told me what kind they were, but I am so fried from school that I forgot. I do know that they are plant safe. Anyways, I think for my 10G I am going to get some Otos. I have since thrown out that bag of wafers just in case since my deaths are immediately after feeding them.
