My neighbor has a knack for using any item for decoration-she has bowling balls in her flower garden, just to give you an idea.
She has a garden pond made of two old cast iron tubs-claw foot style, which she has built up earth around, and then placed rock around them. I would say they probably hold about 60+ gallons of water each. She has about 10 goldfish between the two tubs, a couple of plants, and some frogs that came to visit.
She moved all the goldfish from one tub to the other to clean them, and when she moved the goldfish all back into the clean tub, within a couple of days, the tub walls were covered in brown algae.
I told her I thought part of the problem was that all the fish were in one tank-too many nutrients!
I suggested getting some pond snails, and some more plants, but she said she had been thinking about a pleco-but we are both of the mind that pleco's are tropical.
So, is there some kind of algae eating fish that is a coldwater specimen?
Thanks for the help!
