My ammonia level is at 0 as is nitrite. The pH is a little low at 6.4. He was in a 15 gallon with 2 cories and that's it. The temp of the water is 76 at night and 78 during the day. He was fine when i put him in the tank yesterday, but when I woke up this morning he was dead... any ideas on why this may be?

Dumb question, but how did you acclimate him?

To me it sounds like you have old tank syndrome, PH should be 7+ from the tap and it decreases when you do not to water changes and the fish waste dissolves in the water. When you add new fish they come from fresher water that has a PH of at least 7. When you add them to your tank they go into shock from the quick difference. I would recommend doing small water changes.

i acclimated him by floating the bag for half hour while every 10 minutes adding more water from my tank to his bag... was this right? i mean my cories are doing just fine... and i've been using the API pH up stuff so the water should be at 6.6 now... should i do 10% water changes on top of that?

also what fish should i get to go with my two cories? it's only a 15 gallon (don't worry i have a 30 gallon to move the cories to when they get bigger, i'm just working on cycling that one right now) so i don't want to crowd them in too much, but i want some top or mid-level fish that i can actually see during the day. my cories seem to prefer to come out at night. i want some that are showy and pretty (also within a college student's budget haha). also ones that a newbie won't kill...

Some Cardinal Tetras are nice. Fancy Guppies. One Betta.

i would do the one betta but i kinda want more than 3 fish in the tank, ya know? i think the guppies is a good idea tho!

get 5 harlequin rasboras, they are easy to find, are cheap and make great colorful schoolers!
