Algae in return hoses

Ok here is my question I have a 155 gallon tank its in a window that faces east get morning light house next door and trees stop direct light. back of tank painted with blue and some back ground behind that. cante move tank for awhile no algae problem in tank yet.. I was cleaning filters and noticed algae in tubes will this become a major problem or issome alae good? :huh:

I believe some algae is good, but it may depend on what you keep. You could wrap those tubes in something to minimize the issue.

i have algae in my tubes but not in my tank. i dont worry about it. if you really really want to you could clean it. you could also use something to cover it so it doesnt get light.

Wow I really need to proof read a little better. So I am going to take it that some algae in hoses is fine. Thanks for your quick responses I can finish putting it back together now.

i have brown 'gunk' in the return hoses of virtually all my cannisters and my Python hose. it has been there for years and causes no harm. in fact, my feeling is that it's full of vitamins and minerals and is 'good' for fish. yup, that's my story and i'm stickin' to it. i have no intention of ever cleaning out those hoses.

I have it my hoses also. The only time I do clean them is when I really notice a slowdown of water through them. It is amazing how a little bit of stuff on the sides of water lines can adversely affect water flow. This said, I still only clean them maybe once a year, at most.
