I bought an algae pad for acrylic tanks because I like the softer texture. Now I see on the back it says "Do not use on glass". What's going to happen? Will I scratch my glass tank?

Only things as hard as or harder than glass can scratch glass (sand, rocks, diamond etc). I don't think there is any type of plastic etc that can scratch glass. I could be wrong. I also thought acrylic was a lot easier to scratch than glass, I wonder why they put that on there???

Got a number you can call on the package or site where you can leave a question? Sounds odd, maybe very ineffective on glass and this is a poor way of saying that?

that's a good idea, Bob. I'll ask the manufacturer. Just wanted to see if anyone here has had experience with this that they could share.

TropicalNorth, I think you're probably right though that the material would have to be REALLY hard to scratch glass. Perhaps I'll try it on my oldest tank that's already quite scratched (from razor blades) :D

Acrylic is much softer than glass. Anything that will scratch glass will tear up acrylic. They let the wrong person write the label for that.

Many pads for glass have a statement warning against the use on acrylic tanks. If you use a Scotchbrite pad on glass there won't be any problem. But if you use it on an acrylic tank, you will never see through it again.

I think the label person is one of those people who walks through life clueless and had an opportunity to think.

thanks Chompers, and nice to see you here. I like your answer. I was pretty sure it wouldn't hurt :) Thanks for the confirmation.

They are probably just trying to get you to buy two different pads - one for your glass tanks, the other for your acrylic tanks.
