so guess what guys i have blue/green algae and it sucks in my planted aquerium. i have two sismese algae eaters in a 29 gallon tank and a bushynose pleco. i also have a pair of cichlids in the tank too with babys. i was told by my lfs to put in melfix in my tank to get ride of the alge problem. i was also old to put maryclin in the tank and it wont hurt the fish and it has Erythromycin in it. or should i just go out and buy some erythromycin. do u guys have any other ideas on how i cam get ride of it or not. also i have green spot alge in the tank and the only way to get if off the glass is there any other method to get ride of it or not. i do water changes every week on the tank

A 1/2 dose of Erythromycin usually works just fine without compromising your biofilter.

I'm guessing you mean Maracyn. It will work just fine if you already have it.

yes i have maracyn i just put 3 packs in a 29 gallon tank should i add the third pack since it says too. also none of my local fish store has Erythromycin. the only big chain pet store is petco do they have it or not

Use only a half dose or you risk killing your biofilter.

If it hasn't infiltrated the whole tank, I would try to remove it manually, scooping up as much as I can. If it's on the gravel, take some gravel out with the algae. You can try to dislodge it with your finger and use a gravel cleaning tube to suck it up w/the other hand. Remove leaves/plants that have been overtaken by it. Reduce feeding/debris accumulation in the tank and get something like a Koralia pump to eliminate some of the stagnant areas in the tank. Clean your filter more frequently to remove mulm build-up in the filter. That should take care of blue/green algae more permanently.

i do remove it every week also do i do half a dose a day for a week or half a dose per one week

Sometimes all it takes is one dose...if not, then every other day until it's dead is the norm. Make sure you aren't running any carbon in your filter, as well. Follow jptjpt's advice when done so it doesn't return.
