Algae spots

I have a one year old 55 gallon Malawi tank that has develpoed bright green algae spots on the sides of the tank.No amount of scrubbing seems to get rid of these spots. Are there any suggestions out there perhaps in the way of chemicals or other solutions for getting rid of them?

Razor blades might do the work... they even work on the sandpaper like algae.
 
That is the hardest algae to remove. I had it on my 10g tank when I took it appart and put it up in my attic in february. I had it for a few months before and I would scrub as hard as I could with the rough side of the sponge, but I didn't have much luck. The marks are STILL THERE!!!! I took a picture of it against a white background a few weeks ago.

Cichlid Guy, don't know of anything if your tank is set up, other than the razor blade.

NJ Devils Fan - On dry tanks I've taken a damp cloth, sprinkled it with salt and used that as an abrasive to scrub off hard algae. Soon as the salt dissolves, you have to keep sprinkling more on. Seemed to work for me, can't hurt to try.
 
Cichlid guy, is your tank glass or acrylic? If its acrylic dont try a razor blade.
 
Is the tank in use right now? If not, would a heavy bleach soak work? Of course with a good rinsing and an air dry to de-chlorinate.
